Adult Education

Many of our members did not have formal religious training in their youth. Each year we offer classes in reading Hebrew and learning how to read from the Torah and Haftorah. Other courses are offered as well. Some of our members culminate their education with an adult Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

 Spring 5778 (2018 CE)

Temple Emanu El and Congregation Beth El invite adults living in eastern Connecticut to enroll in one of two sections of an 8-week (once a week) class that will explore the central prayer of every Jewish service: the AMIDAH  {also known as the Shemonah Esrei and Tefillah):

One section at Emanu-El Thursday afternoons at 1:00-2:45pm from April 5 - May 24; and

One section at Beth El’s office Wednesday evenings at 6:00-7:30pm from April 11 - May 30.

Classes will be facilitated by Matt Shulman with Rabbis Marc Ekstrand and Rachel Safman leading two sessions each at their respective congregation’s site. The only pre-requisite is an interest in exploring this central prayer of every Jewish service! Class size is limited to 12 per section to assure a small group dynamic with lots of discussion.

So, please confirm your enrollment asap by contacting Matthew at mhs10@cornell.edu.  There is no charge for this class though learners will be asked to reimburse photocopy charges (estimated at $5-$15) for the binder of materials to be given to each learner.
